What the trainer covers
Time, speed and distance
Set your ground speed over the 60 index once and the whole dial becomes a flight-plan table: every distance on the outer scale sits opposite its time on the inner scale. The same move answers climb and descent questions with feet per minute over the 10 index.
Fuel burn and endurance
Fuel flow in litres per hour is just another rate, so it works exactly like a ground speed. Read leg burns above the minutes, endurance under the usable fuel, and hours and minutes straight off the hours ring.
Unit conversions
The printed arrows around the outer scale convert nautical miles, statute miles and kilometres, and litres, gallons and fuel weights, all with one alignment. Put the value you have under its arrow and read every other unit at once.
TAS and density altitude
Set outside air temperature against pressure altitude in the airspeed window and the main dial converts every calibrated airspeed to true airspeed. The density altitude aperture reads the answer performance charts want, for free.
The wind side
Draw the forecast wind as a dot, rotate the ring to your track and slide to your TAS: ground speed appears under the grommet and the drift under the dot. Run it backwards in flight to measure the real wind from heading, track, TAS and ground speed.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as a real ASA E6-B?
The artwork and the scale geometry match the ASA flight computer used in New Zealand flight training, so every move you learn here transfers directly to the plastic one in your nav bag. The only additions are digital: guided tutorials, highlights and a reading pointer.
Do I need an account?
No. The simulator, tutorials, practice sets and quiz are free in the browser. Your progress is stored on your device.
Which exams does this help with?
E6-B skills are examined in PPL and CPL Navigation and General Navigation theory, and the same calculations run through Flight Planning. The practice problems use the value ranges you will see on a New Zealand flight plan.
Phone or computer?
Both work. On a phone the panel sits below the instrument and the steppers give you fine control that fingers cannot. On a wider screen the lesson sits beside the dial.
